چکیده

SUMMERY: Polymerization shrinkage and related adverse effects are still considered a major problem of dental composites. To solve this problem different approaches are offered. Currently, 3M ESPE developed a new monomer system based on cationic ring opening, the goal is to create a composite material with low polymerization shrinêage called siloran. Aim: To investigate the clinical presentation of FiltekTM Silorane Low Shrink Posterior Restorative for an observation period of 12 months. Material and methods: The study included 36 patients. Total of 66 restorations are made. They were evaluated using modified USPHS criteria of Ryge and Cvar. After their assessment, restorations were captured with a digital camera and X-rays were taken in parallel technique. On control examination after one year, 31 patients (63 restorations) were available for the study. Same parameters were assessed and new digital pictures and X-rays were made. The statistics was made with software SPSS version 17. For statistical analysis a Criterion Pirson (χ2) was used. Results: With the exception of one of the criteria, it was shown that no statistically significant difference exists between the baseline and after one year (p> 0,05). Only the criterion surface of the filling was found to have statistically significant difference (p <0,05)

Comparison of time-dependent changes in the surface hardness of different composite resins

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the change in surface hardness of silorane-based composite resin (Filtek Silorane) in time and compare the results with the surface hardness of two methacrylate-based resins (Filtek Supreme and Majesty Posterior). MATERIALS AND METHODS From each composite material, 18 wheel-shaped samples (5-mm diameter and 2-mm depth) were prepared. Top and bot...

Comparison of Microtensile Bond Strength of Silorane-Based Composite with the Conventional Methacrylate Composite to the Dentin of Primary Teeth

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The bond strength between restorative material and tooth structure is so important for conduction of durable restoration. Considering the recent attention to low shrinkage composite resins, evaluation of micro tensile bond strength of these materials would be valuable. OBJECTIVES To compare the microtensile bond strength of silorane composite resin (Filtek P90) with the c...

Mechanical properties of composites as functions of the syringe storage temperature and energy dose

OBJECTIVE To investigate the mechanical properties of different classifications of composites indicated for posterior application as functions of the storage condition and of the energy dose. MATERIAL AND METHODS Specimens (8 x 2 x 2 mm) were obtained according to the factors: I) Composites (3M ESPE): Filtek P60, Filtek Z350XT, and Filtek Silorane; II) Syringe storage conditions: room tempera...

Light-curing time and aging effects on the nanomechanical properties of methacrylate- and silorane-based restorations.

SUMMARY The aim of this study was to assess the influence of light-curing time on the nanohardness (H) and reduced elastic modulus (Er) of components (underlying dentin, hybrid layer, adhesive, and composite) of methacrylate- and silorane-based restorations after 24 hours and six months of storage. Class II slot preparations were carried out in human molars (n=3) and restored with methacrylate ...

Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Silorane and Methacrylate-Based Composites to IPS Empress 2 Ceramic with Various Surface Treatments

Objectives: Treatment of chipped or fractured porcelain with composite resin is considered as an economic treatment for minor fractures in ceramics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different ceramic surface treatments on bond strength of methacrylate-based and silorane-based composite resin to IPS Empress 2. Methods: Sixty IPS Empress 2 ceramic discs were fabrica...
